Equipment and Materials

You’ll need the following items to complete this lab session. (The standard kit for this book, available from http://www.thehomescientist.com, includes the items listed in the first group.)

Materials from Kit

  • Goggles

  • Beaker, 250 mL

  • Cassia oil

  • Centrifuge tubes, 15 mL

  • Coverslips

  • Forceps

  • Glycerol

  • Hydrochloric acid

  • Hydrogen peroxide, 30%

  • Pipettes

  • Slides, flat

  • Spatula

Materials you Provide

  • Gloves

  • Ammonia, household non-sudsy

  • Camera with microscope adapter (optional)

  • Collection containers (small plastic bags, etc.)

  • Immersion oil (with 1000X microscope only)

  • Microscope (ideally 1000X)

  • Paper

  • Pen

  • Refrigerator

  • Test tube rack

  • Thermos bottle (optional)

  • Water, boiling tap
