Sculptor is an extremely faint, mid-size, mid-southerly constellation that ranks 36th in size among the 88 constellations. Sculptor covers 475 square degrees of the celestial sphere, or about 1.2%. Sculptor’s brightest stars are only fourth magnitude, and it has only three of those. Sculptor is a modern constellation, created in the 18th century by the French astronomer Abbé Nicolas Louis de Lacaille, and so has no mythology associated with it.
