Companies brace for Greek exit

“There are demonstrations today in Athens, but people are still booking holidays.” Mike Bowers, group counsel of Tui Travel, sounds relaxed about how a possible Greek exit from the eurozone might affect tourism.

Travel companies say the Greek islands, where millions of holidaymakers flock to each year, are far away from areas that might be affected by civil unrest. And they point out that they have often moved travellers away from volatile areas, as they did last year during the Arab spring.

But more general contingency plans stretch well beyond moving tourists, and European companies are giving renewed attention to the wider questions about what a Greek exit from the euro might mean ...
