Glossary

ABC model    The theory that core beliefs trigger thoughts, which in turn trigger your feelings and behaviors. In the ABC model, A stands for “activating event,” B stands for “beliefs about the event,” and C stands for “consequences”—what you feel, think, and do because of your thoughts.

activating event    A stimulus that triggers an automatic thought or belief.

addiction    The physical or psychological dependence on a substance or activity.

affirmation    A positive statement you purposely tell yourself to develop a more positive perception of yourself, to change negative behaviors, or accomplish goals.
