IN CONVERSING WITH GRADUATE STUDENTS I like to remind them that despite the drudgery of graduate student life, in their future they will cherish those days and remember them as some of the happiest ones of their lives, when they had freedom of choices and few constraints. I had the influence of two persons, my external advisor Andy Bateman and his wife Cathryn, an accomplished weaver with a zest for experimentation with every textile-manipulation technique possible. She opened the door to the world of weaving and gave me the wings to explore what became a lifelong passion for creating original wearable art that has at times kept me afloat when I would otherwise feel like sinking. ...
