Minor z/OS notes
This chapter is not intended as a general z/OS guide, or as a guide to the AD-CD systems. However, several common questions or problems are discussed here.
12.1 Read-only DASD volumes
z/OS can work with read-only DASD volumes if you ignore a few error messages. zPDT GA6 and the last fix pack for GA5 support this usage. In zPDT configurations, you can set the Linux permissions for the Linux file containing an emulated 3390 volume to specify read-only, as in this example:
$ chmod 444 /z/WORK02 (make WORK02 read-only)
Read-only DASD ...
