As noted at the beginning of this chapter, there are a large number of excellent texts that are devoted to performance tuning. Quite simply, there isn't sufficient space in this book to cover everything you can and should look at with the tools provided by WebSphere Application Server. Additional volumes would also be required for all the third-party tools that can be used for this purpose. As a result, we would like to provide a couple of examples of what we'll term “what's wrong with this picture” when looking at runtime settings and performance monitoring results.
