Transaction Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting transactions can be quite difficult. Knowing the available tools for troubleshooting problems in advance of problems is advisable. WebSphere Application Server ships with the Tivoli Performance Viewer, which has a section for viewing transaction statistics. You should also become familiar with the management tools of the underlying resources. For example, if you are using a database, become familiar with the tools from the database vendor for monitoring active connections. It may be necessary as well to enable trace for the underlying client resource drivers, such as the DB2 packages. We illustrated this in Chapter 10, “CMP and Advanced EJB Settings.”
