In this chapter, we laid the foundation for the remainder of this book. We introduced you to the important topic of application deployment and provided an overview of the WebSphere Platform. In Chapter 2, we will introduce the J2EE application platform and discuss the characteristics of the applications that are meant to run inside WebSphere Application Server. We will also talk about J2EE application packaging.
