As the death toll of magazines continues to ring, I have become especially romantic about the covers of yesteryear. This particular one of Richard Nixon has been hanging on my wall for the last year, and I am continually engaged by it. I think it’s the simplicity and elegance of the solution that gets me. The illustration tool is actually the content itself, and using it as such, the tape literally and figuratively defines the president. I also love how spare it is. There is not one element that is superfluous. And, it’s funny.
