When speaking about his design methodology, Massimo Vignelli said, “Design without structure is anarchy.” This quote is a particularly relevant introduction to my favorite Vignelli graphic design, the programfor the United States National Parks Service (NPS), developed in 1977.

Its purpose was to unify the information graphics of the NPS into a consistent program that would be appropriate and functional for the informational needs of users at the 391 units of the NPS, of which fifty-eight are designated national parks.
