Eddystone and the physical Web

Eddystone is a BLE beacon protocol released by Google which is open source and cross-platform. Eddystone contains three types of data frame types: Eddystone-UID, Eddystone-URL, and Eddystone-TLM:

  • Eddystone-UID: A unique 16-byte static ID, typically used by native apps
  • Eddystone-URL: A physical web project than transmits a compressed URL which is directly usable by the client
  • Eddystone-TLM: Broadcasts beacons information such as battery level, sensor data and other information
