Optimizing for Workloads

Being able to optimize workloads across environments is one of the fundamental architectural principles of hybrid cloud computing. (For more on workload management, see Chapter 12.) Unless workload optimization and balancing are one of the starting points, satisfying customer requirements will be difficult. One way to allow interoperability across workloads is through federation. Federation is a technique for linking together different environments at the interface level. Common interfaces across different public and private cloud services are needed. Even if various services aren’t federated, consumers of cloud services must at least have an uncomplicated way to access data or business services across different environments and networks. Keep in mind, however, that the creation of true portability and interoperability of workloads across hybrid cloud environments is at an early stage.
