Human resource problems at the US Vehicles motor factory in central China

Introduction

In certain areas of China, particularly the central and western provinces, the government is trying to encourage new industries to commence operations in an attempt to provide employment, improve living standards, bring new technologies to the region, and provide training to many employees, as well as increase opportunities in general due to flow-on effects. It is considered that this will assist in the further development of many of these areas. This chapter examines the co-ownership of an automobile manufacturing company, located in central China, with partnership jointly shared by Chinese and overseas interests.
