Ten Essential Rules for Volunteer Placement

1. Do not hire volunteers who you suspect are “know-it-alls,” as they probably have no interest in learning and growing within a health care organization, which by definition must grow and provide learning experiences daily to prosper and survive.

2. Make certain that the volunteers know the mission, vision, and values of the organization, so that they understand how their work behavior must reflect positively and progressively a set of meaningful principles in all their activities.

3. Communicate frequently and informally with all volunteers, so that the volunteers not only stay motivated but also are provided on a daily basis with meaningful feedback.
