Appendix A: Occupational Outlook for HR Managers and Specialists

Every few years the U.S. Department of Labor updates what it calls the Occupational Outlook Handbook. The Handbook offers the following information for over 250 different occupations covering 9 out of 10 jobs in the U.S. economy: What employees with this title do, work environment, how to obtain a job with this job title, pay, job outlook, and similar occupations. This appendix, drawn from the 2012–2013 edition of the Handbook, includes entries of both “Human Resource Specialists” and “Human Resources Managers.”

Appendix B: HR Certification Institute Body of Knowledge

The HR Certification Institute (HRCI) is an independent, internationally recognized certifying body for the HR profession. HRCI certifications require professionals to demonstrate their expertise in the core principles of HR practice by taking examinations. The material in this appendix covers the body of knowledge for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) exams.
