SSL Acceleration
Because of the complication of public key cryptography used in SSL, it is considerably slower than HTTP communication without SSL. Some estimates cite a three to seven times slower experience for the user. Web sites that receive considerable traffic and must employ SSL protection on a large part of their site can easily place too much burden on their Web servers.
