jQuery

There is no way we can start off with the list of JavaScript libraries without starting with jQuery. Up to this point in this book, we have yet to use jQuery in any of our examples. However, if you have spent any time looking into web development prior to reading this book, chances are you have already heard of this project. Originally released in 2006, jQuery has risen up to easily become the most popular JavaScript library in use as (at the time of writing this book) more than 55 percent of the top 10,000 most visited websites on the Internet. Due to the overwhelming use of jQuery in projects from big to small scattered all over the Internet, it has become an almost essential skill in the HTML5 developer's arsenal.
