NM Cable

Nonmetallic (NM) cable is the most widely used cable for indoor AC power wiring. Romex is a brand name for a type of plastic insulated wire. It is often called nonmetallic sheath, although the formal code name is NM cable. This type of wire is suitable for stud walls and on the sides of joists that are not subject to mechanical damage or excessive heat. Newer homes are wired almost exclusively with NM wire.
