Termination Points

Termination points for AC power wiring include wall outlet boxes, wall switches, and junction boxes. Each of these electrical devices provides termination points for connecting AC power to outlet receptacles, light fixtures, ceiling fans, GFCI outlets, and wall switches. All switches and outlets require a properly sized junction box. For example, a 2'' × 3'' box with three wires (14-gauge) should be 2 1/2'' deep. The same box with five wires must be 3 1/2'' deep. A junction box is installed next to a wall stud, as shown in Figure 11.13.
