Installation Plans and Procedures

Installing a residential water system requires several key planning steps. Although local irrigation system codes vary, the following are typical of most installation plans and guidelines:

  • Install the control wire for the irrigation system valves while the trenches are open— The wire should be at least 2'' away from the pipe and either next to or under the pipe. Never place the wire above the pipe.

  • The preferred location for the control wire is 2''–4'' below the pipe— This way, the pipe protects the wire from damage and you are less likely to accidentally cut the wires when making repairs to the pipe.
