Chapter 2. Booting on HP 9000 Servers (PDC, ISL, hpux)

Introduction

The following topics are covered in this chapter:

  • An overview of the boot process on HP 9000 (PA-RISC) servers

  • Boot Control Handler (BCH) and Processor Dependent Code (PDC)

  • Initial System Load (ISL)

Another important topic is HP's independent support processor for the system console, the Management Processor (MP), which is covered along with Node Partitions, or nPartitions, in Chapter 17.

Most of the examples in this chapter were run on nPartions on an rp7420 server. Because this is a partitioned system, you see only the information related to the partition on which I'm working in the examples and not the other partition.
