10.12. Database Server Tuning Issues

Usually, in a well-written database application and well designed configuration, networking is not so much of a performance problem as disk I/O. However, if a database application is poorly written, networking can quickly become a bottleneck, especially in client/server applications. Figure 10-4 shows a client/server database configuration designed for high availability and performance. The configuration shows redundant network paths between each client and the server cluster. The server is clustered into two machines, each sharing the disks with redundant paths. There is a redundant dedicated network connection between the two server machines. High-speed networking connects all of the components.
