6.8. Itanium® Systems
The Itanium® Processor Family (IPF) systems are the next generation of servers set to succeed the PA-RISC line of servers. These systems contain high performance 64-bit processors developed jointly between Intel® and HP. Most of these servers will also support the upcoming PA-8800 processor and its successors, because these newer PA-RISC processors have dropped the runway bus interface and adopted the Itanium2 bus interface. These processors provide a transitional product for customers wanting to migrate from PA-RISC to IPF.
