Appendix A. Performance Tools Alphabetical Reference
This appendix contains a complete alphabetized listing of all the performance tools discussed in this book. Each tool will be presented in a chart with a standard format that summarizes the major points about the tool and highlights unique metrics.
Unix performance tools come from many sources:
System V. System V tools concentrate on the three major system resources: CPU, memory, and disk. While most provide only global performance information, several do provide limited per-process information.
BSD. As with the System V tools, tools from Berkeley concentrate on CPU, memory, and disk resources, and display mostly global metrics.
