CDE and Virtual Partitions

Let's start out talking about Common Desktop Environment (CDE) and Virtual Partitions. Running multiple instances of HP-UX on the same computer is just like having multiple systems. This means that your CDE configuration for users in different vPars is done just as it would be on different systems. There are configuration files that affect CDE on a system-wide basis. You'll need to set up these system-wide configuration files on each vPar to meet the specific needs of the people working in the respective vPars.

In the upcoming sections we'll modify CDE in a Virtual Partition to include a custom CDE Greeting at the login screen and customize the menu to include some Virtual Partition-specific commands.
