Chapter 13. Configuring and Using Networking

In this chapter we'll configure LAN cards and use a variety of networking commands. If you don't know the basics of UNIX networking please see the previous that covered UNIX networking background. In this chapter we'll focus on identifying and configuring LAN cards and use of many networking commands. The following is a bullet list of the topics we'll cover in this chapter:

  • Configuring LAN Adapters (Identify LAN adapters, use set_parms to configure, and manually configure)

  • Commonly Used Networking Commands such as ping, netstat, route, ifconfig and others.

  • ARPA Services

  • Berkeley commands

  • Host name mapping

  • DNS Setup

  • Network File System (NFS) background
