As a professional speaker I’m sometimes asked if I ever embellish a story, perhaps making it a little more interesting and amusing than it was in reality. And my honest answer?

Yes I do.

I see my role when speaking as not just to inform and inspire but also to entertain, and so for that reason I have on occasions exaggerated a particular point. (However, I think it’s fair to say that most people don’t really believe that the person who trained me in my first job was 6’3”, had a shaven head along with the hairiest arms I’d ever seen . . . and was called Jackie.)
