When people are recognized for their potential, their efforts, and their accomplishments, there is a greater likelihood they will develop into employees who do the following:

  • Set challenging goals for themselves

  • Find innovative ways to meet the goals

  • Overcome setbacks, because they assume they can

  • Continually seek new opportunities

  • Enjoy responsibility and managing their own work

Without that recognition, it takes unusually thick skin and exceptional inner drive not to:

  • Feel inadequate and thus resist challenges

  • Stick with what is familiar and low risk

  • Blame oneself when things go wrong (often covered up by blaming others)

  • Hide mistakes

  • Look for direction from others
