Use Graphics to Further the Dialogue

  • Stay alert for how the presentation is going. How is the audience reacting? Are you starting to run out of time?

  • When a question comes up, if it relates to a specific visual, go to it quickly. With the overhead, locate that transparency and show it. (If you've been sloppy about where you put used transparencies, lots of luck.) With a computer, know your software. (Tip: In PowerPoint slide-show mode, tap the slide number and "Enter.")

  • If the audience discussion is indicating "move on," adjust. Perhaps shut off the projector and engage in dialogue.

  • If time is running out, make your choices. Do not make the common mistake of continuing to address each chart and all bullets, except now at auctioneer speed. Decide ...
