Build your machine: the rhythms and routines of success

You need a machine to make things happen. People, money and a plan are all important, but without a machine you will go nowhere fast.

Your leadership machine has seven parts:

  1. Project management
  2. Strategic planning
  3. Information management
  4. Performance management
  5. Development plans
  6. Compensation and reward plans
  7. Communications

If you look at this list and suspect that it looks more like management than leadership, you are right to be suspicious. As a leader, the machine can both enable and imprison you. You have to know your role relative to the machine.
