Traditional techniques of proactive job hunting
- Identify potential employers and write to a named person – not the personnel manager (unless you’re looking for a personnel job), but the person running the department.
- In addition to your internet research you can identify potential employers by taking a trip to your local library and doing some book research. There are literally dozens of directories. A quick phone call can confirm a name. When you know which geographical area and industry/public sector you are targeting, ask the librarian for advice on which directories will be most useful.
