If you are considering purchasing a survey instrument rather than complete survey services, many of the previous suggestions still apply—particularly if you are considering a product offered by a consultant or consulting firm. However, in most instances, you will probably be dealing with a publisher, and you may be limited to reviewing literature. Here are some methods to contact potential sources:
Read sales and administrative materials. Most publishers provide descriptive sales literature. Sometimes it is very complete, but other times it makes general claims with little documentation. Obtaining an administrative manual can often solve this. Also, some publishers have validity and reliability studies available on request.
