Making Yourself Known in the Marketplace
It is important to meet personally with creative employers and commissioners wherever and whenever you can. Since job advertisements for junior designers with less than a year or two’s experience are rare, and ones for illustrators virtually non-existent (advertisements placed by agents who want to swell their books don’t count and are no guarantee of work), it will be up to you to be proactive and make yourself known in the creative marketplace by whatever means possible. Getting on well with a potential employer, discovering you’re on the same creative wavelength or share similar interests can give you a real advantage if and when a vacancy or suitable commission does come up.
