THE COACHING WHEEL

The wheel usually has eight segments, though you can have a different number if you think that suits the client better.

Each segment represents a significant area of the client’s life. An example ‘split’ is:

  • Career
  • Money
  • Health
  • Friends and family
  • Partner
  • Personal growth
  • Fun
  • Physical environment.

Suggest this to the client: they might want to tinker with it, and this is fine.

The client then grades their life as it is right now for each segment. 10 is the top score; 1 is a low score. The grading should be realistic: for health ‘10’ is not an Olympic gold medallist but what the client would consider would be super fit for him- or herself.
