The Big Picture

At the end of the day, many different models for wireless access will exist and thrive. One of the most exciting things about this technology is that it is not an organized deployment being rolled out by a large carrier, such as the cellular telephone phenomenon in the 1990s. 802.11 is characterized by a unique organic growth pattern. Much like the Internet itself, Wi-Fi is not deployed, nor controlled by any one entity. This independence gives wireless the freedom to flourish and grow.
