How to Set Up a Home Theater System

As you plan your home theater layout, you’ll need to position your video display, speakers, and furniture carefully to create the best possible viewing and listening experience. In general, you should center your seating area between the side walls on which you mount your surround speakers. The distance from your viewing screen to the center of your seating area should be roughly twice the diagonal measure of a widescreen TV. So, for example, if you have a 60” diagonal television, you’d want to position your main seating about 120”, or 10’, from the screen.
