“Hi Lucy, it’s me.” Sally pinched the cell phone to her ear with her shoulder as she rummaged through her purse for her keys. “Can you pick up Charlie after school? I need to go to the hospital.”

“Um, sure, of course,” Lucy replied haltingly. “Are you okay? What’s wrong?”

“I think it’s just the flu.” Sally finally located her keys. “But I’ve been pretty sick all night and my doctor suggested going to the emergency room to get checked out. So if you’ll drop Charlie with Mom and Dad, he’ll be okay until I get home tonight.”
