Introduction

Today home recording is an exploding hobby around the world for multiple reasons. Equipment is affordable, gear is cheap, and the price of recording equipment has gone down (wait … that’s really just one reason). The fact that recording equipment has entered an affordable range is the one and only reason that home recording has grown in popularity as a hobby in the last 20 years. Recording used to be only available, in good quality, through high-end expensive recording studios. Thirty years ago rates were usually at least $60 per hour, whether you were recording an album or archiving your 80-year-old father’s war stories for posterity’s sake.
