What Went Wrong: Your Quick Fix Reference

Before you set out to the store with your shopping list, be sure to take a quick look at some things you'll need to watch out for:

  • If you're going to install a wireless network, remember that 802.11a is incompatible with both 802.11b and 802.11g. You can mix 802.11b and 802.11g equipment, but you'll lose the 802.11g performance advantage.

  • Access points don't offer the firewall protection that you find in routers. Choosing an access point rather than a router for the interface between your home network and the Internet is asking for trouble because hackers will be able to access your network.
