Chapter 5. Project 2, Controlling Appliances, Lights, and Devices

Now that your HALbasic software is installed, it is time to move on to setting up some controlling actions for lamps and appliances. Imagine how many times during the course of a week you and your household members turn on and off the various lights in your home. Some of that is proximity based: You want a given light on because you walk into a room. Sometimes it is event driven: You want the porch light on because someone knocked on the door. In other cases the need to turn on a light or an appliance is time based, such as turning a light on and off at certain times so that your home appears occupied when you’re on vacation.
