The Firing Interview

FIRING IS always stressful, but it is essential to the growth of an excellent organization. It is what pruning is to a gardener and to a plant of any kind. It is something that has to be done as an organization grows and changes.

The best time for the firing interview is on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, first thing in the morning or last thing at the end of the day. Whenever possible, don’t fire someone on a Thursday and especially not on a Friday. This gives the fired person the entire weekend to become angrier and angrier. This anger can often lead to irrational behavior, unnecessary lawsuits, and even worse behaviors.
