Cryogenics for high temperature superconductor (HTS) systems

P.K. Ghoshal,     Oxford Instruments NanoScience, Abingdon, UK

Abstract:

This is an overview of cryogenics in relation to the advances in superconducting engineering and technology. This chapter will discuss the fundamentals of a cryogenics system and its requirements for HTS, wet and dry system cooling methods, cryogenics issues with cooling sources, heat sources and measurement, cryostat construction, practical thermometry in dry/cryogen-free systems, development and applications using cryogenics and HTS, and associated challenges.
