Make Your Move
Usually there comes a point when it is time to act. The most common options are either to move on the suspect, drop the case, or continue the hunt. Here, making a move means an action such as bringing charges or a disciplinary action against a suspect. Generally, these searches should not run forever, except in very rare circumstances. (One example is where the police don't want to press charges until they are absolutely sure they will get a conviction, and fear that bringing charges too soon might result in a not guilty verdict. This would, at least in the U.S., provide the suspect future immunity from prosecution under restrictions against double jeopardy.)
