IMPROVEMENTS FOR OVERNIGHT OPERATIONS

The improvements described in this chapter allow reduced overall trip times, so that overnight freight service can be provided between shippers in the Chicago area and customers in metropolitan New York, and vice versa. Trains will depart late in the evening and arrive early in the morning so that, typically, enough time is provided for transfer of truck trailers from the point of origin after business hours to the intermodal terminal in time to place the trailer aboard an overnight train, and when the train arrives at its destination terminal, there is enough time available to unload the trailer from the train and deliver it to the customer before the morning’s opening ...
