Complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) sensors for high-performance scientific imaging

Abstract:

This chapter deals with high-performance complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) image sensors. It starts with a reminder of the basic principles and sensor parameters for the detection of charged particles and photons, in particular high-energy photons. It is then followed by two sections, the first one on charged particles and the second on the detection of X-rays. In each section, first the main applications are introduced, then the history and state-of-art of CMOS image sensors in the field are presented.
