What is 24P and HDCAM?

The enthusiasm for tape shot at a frame rate of 24 fps (frames per second) using a progressive scanning technique together with the HDCAM recording format has come about because, for the first time, with a tape-based recording system, it offers true worldwide compatibility. This has only previously been achieved using 35mm film and then only since the early 1930s, when the world, which was already moving to a film width of 35 mm, finally agreed to use the same perforation as well.
