About the Authors
Carlos Andre Reis Pinheiro
Dr. Pinheiro began his business career in analytics in 1996 for a Brazilian worldwide shipping company, now called CSAV. Working at some of the largest telecommunications providers since the market privatized in 1998, he has examined business problems in database marketing, data warehousing, data mining, and social networks analysis across a wide range of departments including IT, marketing, sales, revenue assurance, and finance.
Dr. Pinheiro holds a PhD in engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro where he focused on high performance computing methods for topology generation in neural networks to prevent insolvency; a MSc. in computer science from Fluminense Federal University; and a B.Sc. in mathematics and computer science.
He has also completed three postdoctoral research terms, in optimization at IMPA4 (2006–2007); in social network analysis at Dublin City University, Ireland (2008–2009); and in human mobility and complex networks at Université de Savoie, France (2012). He is currently a visiting professor at KU Leuven, Belgium, and a lecturer at FGV, Brazil, investigating human mobility in urban areas.
Dr. Pinheiro authored Social Network Analysis in Telecommunications, John Wiley Sons Inc. in 2011. Today, he is in Leuven, Belgium, or Niteroi, Brazil, with his wife and two children. And when not researching, teaching, or writing you’ll find him on the soccer field with his son or playing with his daughter.
