In the game screen, having Xs and Os appear out of nowhere isn’t realistic, so let’s make the tiles appear more lifelike. We’ll make them splat onto the grid as if they were made of jelly.
In 1981, Disney animators Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas published a famous book called The Illusion of Life: Disney Animation [JT95], which explained the animation process used by animators since the 1930s. In the book they outlined twelve basic principles of animation, which are still in use to this day.
