Boiling

Boiling heat transfer is associated with the change in phase from liquid to vapour. When a solid surface is exposed to a liquid and maintained above the saturation temperature of the liquid, boiling occurs. High heat fluxes may be achieved in boiling phenomena. The two basic types of boiling are pool boiling and flow boiling. Pool boiling occurs on a heated surface submerged in a liquid pool and flow boiling occurs in a flowing stream. The boiling of water in a kettle on a stove and the boiling of water in boiler tubes under pressurized conditions are examples of pool boiling and flow boiling, respectively.
